$20m grant for healthcare in Afghanistan by World Bank

The World Bank approved Thursday a US$20m grant to support the Afghan government’s efforts at healthcare provision. The grant is made to the Health Sector Emergency Reconstruction and Development Project.

The United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) and Afghanistan

The World Health Organisation is the directing and coordinating agency for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters.

The WHO cooperation with Afghanistan is based on the Country Cooperative Strategy (CCS) framework developed in July 2005 with representatives of Afghanistan and major donors to the health sector and with WHO staff based in the country.
